Poultry producers in South Africa held a forum in Johannesburg to discuss the reduction of importation and protection of the producers from dumping.
Governmen;t officials and research institutions were present in the forum. It was there that data were presented on the high input costs that the poultry industry is experiencing. They are also greatly affected by the cheap imports of poultry from Europe and United States.
South African government is not deaf with the issue and said that they are doing their best to resolve it
“The government is doing what it can, but the important thing is to ensure that the public is aware of the issues in order to pay allegiance to locally grown and produced products. This, in turn, will also assist the distressed poultry industry,” said Imameleng Mothebe of the Department of Tradeand Industry.
