Slow-Growth Chickens Not Equal to Safe Meat

Watt AgNet editor and content director Terrence O’ Keefe has stated that people’s perspective that slow-growth chickens are equitable to well raised chickens are false.

The backward looking sentiments of the consumers are not the reason for the fast growth chickens to be abandoned.

O’ Keefe said that the US poultry has achieved progressive researches on broiler production, which made it cheaper to raise and sell with the less time needed to produce a full grown chicken.

“Chicken meat is relatively much less expensive than it used to be to buy. We’re in a better situation than we’ve ever been in terms of how many resources it takes to produce a pound of edible chicken,” he said.
