Despite the recent lifting of poultry restrictions in England, poultry and waterfowl showing classes at the Royal Bath and West Show have been cancelled over fears of bird flu.
The event in Shepton Mallet, Somerset is supposed to run from May 31 to June 3.
It usually attracts 150,000 visitors a year over four days, making it the largest agricultural event in the West of England.
“We have got responsibility for the whole poultry industry and pure breed exhibitors,” said head of shows Alan Lyons.
Members of the show still don’t feel comfortable putting birds together. In 2016, some 1,200 birds were removed from the show because of a suspected infectious bronchitis outbreak.
