Despite the avian influenza case in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija, the supply of poultry remains stable throughout the country. This was announced by the United Broiler Raisers Association President Elias Inciong.
Currently farm gate price of broiler chicken is P94 per kilogram and could go up to P100 per kilogram. The reason of the stable supply and no adjustment of prices is that poultry farmers now knew how to mitigate the case with procedures of containing the virus.
However, Inciong said, “Farm-gate price could increase but after Christmas, it would collapse.”
Secretary Piñol of the Department of Agriculture explained how the poultry supply and prices remains stable.
The earlier AI incident had a massive impact on the prices of chicken because we did not know what to do then. So we took extra precautionary measures because that time, we did not know the extent of the problem,” Piñol said.
“But this time around, it is farm-specific. What was hit was one farm, in Cabiao. We did not make a big fuss out of it anymore [as] it is already under control,” he added.
