Pakistan Seeks End on Poultry Export Ban in Middle East

Members of the Pakistan Poultry Association urged their government to persuade Middle Eastern countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, to lift the ban on their poultry products

The ban imposed on Pakistani poultry products by Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Yemen started in 2010.

“Since 2010 no complaints of bird flu virus have emerged in Pakistan, therefore, there is no reason for banning our products,” an association representative said.

Indian poultry had grabbed Pakistan’s shares in almost all markets.

The poultry association recently sent representatives to meet with Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan, assuring him that poultry products from Pakistan have met all the international standards.

Khan said he would activate Pakistan’s foreign missions in the Middle Eastern countries to take up the matter at an appropriate forum.
