The Nigerian Customs Service destroyed over 102,099 cartons of illegally imported frozen poultry products with an estimated worth of N1.27 billion.
Poultry products are still under import prohibition and would be seized and destroyed if found in the country.
Customs Area Controller FOU Zone ‘C’ Owerri, Comptroller Mohammed Uba said that intercepted product was seen in a truck with Reg. No AJL 861 XA. Products included turkey parts, chicken parts and poultry gizzard.
Uba urged Nigerians not to patronize imported poultry as it could pose health issues and also to save the local industry.
