NECC Denies Circulation of Plastic Eggs in Indian Markets

The National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) denied reports that plastic eggs are circulating around Indian markets.

Plastic eggs are artificial eggs from China. They are more costly to produce and therefore no economic benefit could be derived from marketing those eggs in India.

“Reports about Chinese eggs coming into the market are false. The Indian poultry industry ensures production of 100 percent white-shelled eggs, while the eggs that originate from China are 100 percent brown,” said Prasanna Pedgaonkar, deputy general manager of Venkateshwara Hatcheries.

According to producers, egg sales dropped by 10 percent following the plastic egg rumor.
