Fabito’s Shades of Grey: Story of Hottest Cock Breeder in Colombia

Fabio Rodriguez, more popularly known as Fabito, is one of the most successful contemporary breeders in Colombia and South America.

His game fowls figured prominently in a number of international competitions. He is a two-time champion and four-time runner up in International Championship in Cali, Colombia; two-time champion and four-time runner up in International Championship in Guayaquil, Ecuador; champion and runner up in Iberoamerican Championship in Lima, Peru; winner in one-on-one against Edmon Elias and runner up in the overall qualification in Intercontinental Tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Fabito came from a family of cockers. His father, Marcelo Rodriguez, was a famous handler during the golden age of cockfighting in Cali. Marcelo handled the game fowls of great breeder Dr. Alejandro Zamorano in El Peñon Hacienda.

The young Fabito grew up with the big cockers of the last five decades, creating a name for himself in cockfighting and along the way owning his own hacienda where he breeds his game fowls. He called it El Peñon Hacienda in honor of the property where his father used to work.

Few breeders in South America can speak of bloodlines maintained through time as Fabito can. He used inbreeding as a method to preserve famous lines such as the Acids, Cheaters, Canaries, Dog Faces and Devils.

But Fabito is best known for his grey fighting cocks. While most cockers prefer bright-colored game fowls, Fabito likes to field his game fowls with shades of grey. You can see some of his grey fowls in the pictures below.

One of scribes in Colombia had the privilege of doing an interview with Fabito. You can watch the video of the interview here:
