Cockfighting in Thailand: Closest Thing to ‘Cockboxing’

Cockfighting is embedded in Thai culture for centuries. Thailand does it differently compared to most countries.

Every cockfight is divided into rounds – 20 minute per – and a fabric is used to cover the spurs of the game fowls for minimal wounds. This makes Thailand’s cockfighting a lot more like boxing or perhaps kickboxing, which is popular in this Southeast Asian country.

But these sporty rules are not enough to convince animal welfare groups that cockfighting is indeed a sport.
