Several chickens recently suffered an agonizing death at the hands of a halal poultry company that supplies major supermarkets.
The chickens, 81 in total, were boiled alive after failures at a slaughterhouse of 1Stop Halal. The company admitted causing unnecessary suffering to the chickens at its plant in Eye, Suffolk.
Ranjit Singh Boparan, a multimillionaire known as the “Chicken King,” co-owned the company. They were meted a fine of £8,000 and ordered to pay £6,000 costs.
The birds reportedly were not stunned before being killed because of faulty electrical equipment. The company also failed to cut the chickens’ throats before they entered a scalding tank used to loosen feathers on dead birds.
These failures meant that the birds spent two minutes in very hot water while they’re still alive.
