Ongoing bird flu restrictions forced the organizers of the annual Melton spring rare breeds poultry show to cancel the event originally slated last April 8.
The provisional new schedule is on May 6 if the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) lifts the ban on poultry being let out from netted runs. Defra suspended all poultry sales since December.
The spring sale of graded traditional pure and rare breed poultry and waterfowl will be held at the Melton Cattle Market.
Defra designated large areas of Melton borough as high risk for the circulation of bird flu because of the proximity of large bodies of water where wild birds gather.
The department would review the restrictions on the housing of poultry and sales event at the end of this month when most wild birds would have migrated from the United Kingdom and ended the risk of spreading bird flu.
