The Bureau of Animal Industry has commented that the country will be declared as bird flu free country by April 2018. This is a month late than the target of March 2018.
Government has been experiencing delays in cleansing poultry farms in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija, BAI says. But provincial veterinarians are working in hand to immediately meet the deadline.
If further delays happen, Philippines major importer, Japan will be forced to source its chicken from other countries. This will be a great loss to the country considering yakitori chicken is a major food in Japan.
“The cold storages have been communicating with me, and they are saying that their problem is that, if it takes us so long to be AI-free, then we may lose our market for yakitori,” Arlyn Vytiaco of BAI said.
It would take 90 days after the final day of cleansing to regain a bird flu status free from the World Organization on Animal Health.
