Some 80,000 chickens were culled in Japan after a case of highly pathogenic influenza was reported in a farm in Yamagata.
Troops helped culling the chickens according to the Gifu prefectural government. The local government also restricted movements of poultry and eggs within the 10-kilometer radius of the affected farm.
The prefectural government was alerted by the farm after 100 chickens were found dead last weekend.
Cases of highly pathogenic H5 virus have also been found at poultry farms in Niigata, Aomori, Miyazaki prefectures and the northernmost island of Hokkaido.
