19,000 Chickens Killed in Pennsylvania Fire

Some 19,000 chickens were killed in a large chicken house fire in central Pennsylvania.

Fire crews in Lancaster County were call to the blaze in Strasburg Township at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday (April 30). The fire was in the 300 block of Walnut Run Road and it took firefighters about three hours to get it under control.

Chief Wesley Hicks of the Refton Fire Co. said nine engine companies, 13 tanker companies and two truck companies combined to have the blaze under control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Officials said that the chickens were just brought in the chicken house a week ago.
